- Working hours are set at 35 hours a week or 7 hours a day. Under special circumstances working hours can increase to 48 hours per week
- Maternity leave is set at 16 weeks while paternity leave is set at 11 consecutive days
On top of employment laws outlined in The French Labour Code employees working in France may also be required to obtain a work visa. While workers in EU countries, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein are free to work in France without a visa, non-EU workers will need to obtain a work visa. There are two main types of work visas in France:
- Short stay visa – for stays of up to 90 days.
- Long-stay visa– for individuals who plan to stay for more than 90 days.
