Then, there’s Norway’s employment laws, including the following:
- A working day must not exceed nine hours or 40 hours a week
- Overtime must be paid at an increase of 40%
- Workers are entitled to at least: 11 hours continuous off-duty time per 24 hours – 35 hours continuous off-duty period per 7 days
- Night work (between 21:00 and 06:00) and Sunday work is not permitted unless necessitated by the nature of work.
- Employees are entitled to a written employment contract whether employment is temporary or permanent
- Employees are entitled to 4 weeks and 1 day of paid holiday as outlined in the Holiday Act
The above regulations, and further employment laws, are set out in The Norwegian Working Environment Act (Arbeidsmiljøloven). While The Norwegian Working Environment Act does not specifically outline a minimum wage certain sectors, such as construction and hospitality, have different set minimum wages which employers must adhere to. Likewise, Contractual Agreements with trade unions may also provide additional employment requirements not outlined in The Norwegian Working Environment Act.
