- Working day must not exceed eight hours or 40 hours a week
- Overtime is limited to 48 hours a week and should not exceed 200 hours per annum
- Overtime is generally paid at 50 to 100% of the base hourly wage
- Employees are entitled to 25 days of paid leave
- Parental leave is set at 480 days at around 80% salary
- Employees are protected from dismissal on the grounds of illness
The regulations set out in these acts are heavily protective of employees and whilst they contribute to Sweden’s high living and working standards, they can prove challenging for businesses. In addition to employment regulations, visa requirements in Sweden add another hurdle for businesses to overcome. While EU residents do not need a visa to enter Sweden, non-EU residents require a Schengen Vias and work permit.
